The Dark Horse Advisory, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") doing business as The Dark Horse Advisory ("Dark Horse"), respects your privacy. This policy explains what information this website collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information. Dark Horse is based in Middleton, Idaho.

What We Collect

Information you provide directly. When you email Dark Horse, call us, or otherwise contact us, you provide information such as your name, email address, phone number, organization name, and the content of your communication. We collect only what you voluntarily share.

Information collected automatically. This site is hosted on Wix. Wix collects limited technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, and session activity, for security, fraud prevention, and platform performance. This happens at the hosting level. Wix's data practices are described in the Wix Privacy Policy.

This site does not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or other third-party behavioral tracking tools. If that changes, this policy will be updated.

Cookies. This site uses essential cookies set by Wix to keep the site functional and secure. It does not use marketing or advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality.

How We Use Your Information

Information you provide is used to:

  • Respond to inquiries and discuss potential engagement.

  • Communicate about active engagements, workshops, diagnostics, or advisory work.

  • Send periodic updates if you have opted in to receive them.

  • Maintain the security and operation of this website.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

  • Wix. Hosting platform. See above.

  • Google Fonts. This site loads typography from Google Fonts. Google may receive limited technical data such as IP address when fonts are loaded. See Google's privacy policy.

  • External links. This site links to LinkedIn, christyslanaker.com, steadyheartstories.com, and other external resources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.

Your privacy rights

You have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you.

  • Request access to or a copy of that information.

  • Correct inaccurate information.

  • Request deletion of your information.

  • Opt out of marketing communications.

To exercise any of these rights, email christy@thedarkhorseadvisory.com. We respond within 30 days.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of any sale or sharing (we do not sell or share personal information), and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

If you are a resident of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have similar rights under your state's law. Use the same email above to exercise them.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability. The legal basis for processing your information is legitimate interest (responding to business inquiries and conducting client engagements) and consent (for any marketing communications you opt in to). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Data retention

Business correspondence is retained for the duration of an active or potential engagement and for up to seven years afterward to comply with tax and business recordkeeping requirements. You may request earlier deletion of marketing-related data at any time. Engagement records that are part of a signed contract may be retained longer if required by that contract or by law.

Client data and confidentiatily

Information shared with us during paid engagements is treated as confidential and governed by the engagement letter or master services agreement between Dark Horse and the client. That information is not covered by this Privacy Policy alone; it is covered by the relevant agreement.

Children's Privacy

Dark Horse is a B2B advisory firm. This site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We maintain reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top will be revised. Material changes will be noted.
